Woven Textile Designer

I am a woven textile designer with a strong interest in fashion and interior design. I really enjoy working with colour, pattern, and shapes, whilst considering the end-use and quality of the fabric. Within textile design I enjoy both the design and hands-on-making. Fashion and textile designers such as Sonia Delaunay, Valentino, Dries Van Noten, Celine, Issey Miyake and COS are favourites of mine as their designs are inspiring, creative, and timeless, using appealing textiles and garment shapes. For interiors I like the style of the Designers Guild, especially the painted designs that exude depth and character. I also admire their bold use of pattern and colour. My interest lies mainly in the high-end and bespoke markets.

I graduated from the University of Brighton in 2012 and have since worked for a diverse range of clients within several areas of the fashion and textiles industry including millinery, costume, fashion brands, and a woven textile company producing their own ranges of fabrics and working to create designs for other fashion houses. This experience in design, production, and sourcing has given me a broad insight into the industryas a whole and has helped me build a comprehensive and proficient skillset as a textile designer.

I design fabrics to be hand-woven, for powerloom, or Jacquard. I find using Jacquard exciting as there is an almost infinite range of opportunities for creating patterns including the scope to use hand-drawn and painted designs. I absolutely love hand-drawing and painting when exploring design ideas.
