Employment

Malhia Kent (Jan 2013 – April 2013)

Hand weaving couture fabrics for client orders, and working out the peg plans to create the same fabric as the original sample whilst considering the stability of the fabric. Setting up the looms and making warps, colour work and weaving new ideas for the new collection. I helped to hand- weave samples for specific requests from Chanel. Helped to prepare the new fabric collection for events such as Premier Vision, working on the stand at Premier Vision, helping clients and taking orders.

Ahilya (Oct 2012 - Dec 2012)

Internship working at a high-end luxury scarf brand. I helped design scarves for Ahilya’s own new menswear collection and other outside projects. This included creating presentations on Photoshop and using Weavemaker to show design ideas. I was responsible for contacting mills in other countries to select which was most suitable to weave different designs and making the spec sheets to send to them to get the scarves made.

Katharine Harrison (June 2012- Aug 2012)

Textile designer for SS/13 collection. I looked at different ideas and techniques to work with the collection and inspiration. Designed and wove fabric samples, and one was chosen to be used for jackets in the collection.

Katharine Harrison (Jan 2011- Sep 2011).

Work placement - Assisted Katharine with the pre-collection and full collection for SS12 - sampling and making garments, machine and hand sewing, and altering patterns. It was a great experience to work so closely alongside Katharine, to learn things that needed to be considered when designing as a brand and for a collection.

Noel Stewart Millinery (May 2010 – Oct 2010)

Work placement - Worked as Noel’s assistant on SS11 collection, shown at London Fashion Week. Made hats for the collection SS11, discussing design and material choice with Noel. It was great to see the process of working through a collection from design to making and exhibiting. Worked alongside Noel working with fashion designers to make hats for their catwalk shows.

WGSN

My woven samples were photographed and used alongside WGSN’s new trend stories for AW 13/14.

Personal Statement

I am a very hard-working, independent, determined, and pro-active person and easily adjust to new situations. I have a highly professional approach and work well as part of a team and under pressure. I enjoy both the design and the hands-on making of textiles. I am very inspired by colour, pattern, and texture, and I enjoy trying out different techniques and working to achieve desired effects. Whilst I enjoy all facets of textiles industry, I especially enjoy working in the high-end and bespoke market. I have specialised in woven textiles and enjoy the technical side and considering the structure of the fabric.

My primary interests include clothing and fabric design, textiles and structures, painting, drawing and creating sketchbooks, art, and hats. In my spare time I also enjoy listening to music, reading, travelling, and swing dancing, as well as regularly going to the theatre, concerts, and exhibitions.
